Occupation: Hotel and restaurant
Collection: Union

A workers' demonstration during the unsuccessful 1934 Hotel and Restaurant workers' strike. The sign in front -- "Lincoln Freed the Slaves. Hotels Insist on Slavery"-- conveys a vivid image. Note the vintage car, and the police officer with the nightstick (he probably did not carry a gun). The strikers didn't know it, but they were on the brink of a breakthrough for themselves and their union.
